Olga and Priit Pärn recently completed a new film “Luna Rossa” in cooperation between studio Estonian Joonisfilm and the French company Miyu Productions, which will premiere on August 21 at the International Animation Festival Imaginaria in Conversano, Italy.

After some years of break, Pärns has been delighting film enthusiasts with new work. The production of the 32-minute long film was very extensive and took nearly four years. The passage of time undoubtedly played a part in the film’s rich visuals. Based on the content of the work, innovative technology was introduced, where The Motion Capture system records the actors’ movements as 3D puppets on the computer, and the final result is still a 2D drawing film. The actors were Karolin Jürise, Tanel Saar and Ago Soots from the VAT theater. Priit Pärn was the one who staged all incredible choreography in collaboration with Tanel Saar. Actors responds with a huge devotion to the project, giving all their’s phantastic physycal facilities.

The story takes place in Italy, probably Naples. The relationships between the main characters, two men and two women, are complex and deliberately presented in a way that leaves the viewers enough room for different interpretations. At the same time, the story moves firmly towards a specific goal. In which direction, the authors refuse to reveal and leave the joy of finding to the future viewers of the film.

It is not yet clear when Luna Rossa will reach Estonian viewers. However, the world premiere will already take place on August 21 at the Imaginaria Animation Festival in southern Italy. Pärns are very satisfied with the choice of venue: “The film is ready for us only when we see – hear the reaction of the full hall to it. What could be better than the real – Italian audience reacting first to our pseudo – Italian film!”

Imaginaria International Animation Festival will take place from 18 to 25 August in Conversano in southern Italy.
“Luna Rossa” by Priit and Olga Pärna has been produced in the Estonian Joonisfilm studio, co-produced by the French Miyu Productions. The producer of the film is Kalev Tamm, co-producers Emmanuel-Alain Raynal and Pierre Baussaron. The production of the film has been financially supported by the Estonian Film Institute, the Estonian Cultural Capital, Giga, the French Center national du Cinéma and de l’Image animée (CNC), Pictanova.
